Doghouse Boxing - Dog Pound _ U.K. B0XING _ Froch Could Yet Fight Mikkel Kessler In Copenhagen

Carl Froch could yet fight Mikkel Kessler in Copenhagen

Promoters Sauerland Events insist they have yet to decide where to stage Carl Froch's WBC super-middleweight defence against Mikkel Kessler on 17 April.

Froch claimed the bout had been set for the Danish city of Herning, but Sauerland later issued a statement saying a venue had not been decided on.

Froch's camp want the fight to take place in Kessler's home city of Copenhagen, the Danish capital.

The bout forms part of the second round of the Super Six Classic tournament.

"Team Sauerland and [Froch's promoters] Hennessy Sports are close to reaching a decision which will be formally announced in the nearest future," read a Sauerland statement.

Staging the fight in Copenhagen would make travelling easier for Froch's fans - Herning, with a population of 45,000, lies 150 miles to the west and does not have an international airport.

Froch will be making the third defence of the world title he claimed by beating Canadian Jean Pascal in December 2008.

However, it will not be the first time Froch has defended his title outside the United Kingdom.

Last April, Froch staged an extraordinary comeback to beat Jermain Taylor in Connecticut, before outpointing Andre Dirrell in Nottingham last October.

The Dirrell encounter was Froch's first fight in the Super Six super-middleweight tournament, masterminded by American television network Showtime.

Last November, Kessler was beaten by Andre Ward and in the process lost his WBA belt.

Seems that it would make the most financial sense to have it in Copenhagen, but if the site fee at the other venue out weighs the alternatives significantly, well....

Not sure how it works in Denmark but if it's anything like the UK, the big venues don't pay you to hold your event there.

Depends on the deal, in the US at least, and how the gate is split up.

A four wall deal has you paying a rental fee for the site but also taking everything away at the end.

A two wall deal is when they split the costs and revenues.

Then you have deals like LV where the venue pays you.

Wherever they fight I'm just curious to see if the tough SOB Frotch can take the Kessler bombs.

i feel both these fighters are underated at the moment, leading me to suspect that if froch wins, kessler was exposed by ward, and if kessler wins, froch getting beaten was a long time coming.
