Shirt Hits the Fans for David Haye

DAVID HAYE admits he is Germany's public enemy No 1 before his bid to land the world heavyweight title here on Saturday.

Haye's campaign of mock and shock has left many fight fans raging after he called WBA title holder Nikolay Valuev an ugly freak.

He also showed Klitschko brothers Vitali and Waldimir with decapitated heads on a T-shirt in a stunt aimed at unsettling the pair.

But the Londoner's trainer Adam Booth believes it was Haye's outrageous verbal attacks that landed him Saturday's shot against the German-based 7ft 2in, 23st Russian giant Valuev.

Booth said: "He's in Germany as public enemy No 1. But you know what? He doesn't care. The one thing about David is that he has got big balls.

"What created this opportunity with Valuev is that his profile was raised so highly with the decapitated head shot of the Klitschkos in a magazine.

"And then all he did was have 'that' T-shirt made up. It sent them all ballistic in Germany. That raised his profile so high the Valuev fight happened. That's the only thing that brought it to the table."

Haye, 29, said: "I know Valuev hates me and he is looking to do a number on me - it ain't gonna happen."

Haye formed his own promotional company soon after he quit the amateur ranks and manager Booth claims they were hampered in the early days by dirty tricks.

Booth added: "I don't drink alcohol, but if, when, David wins I can see myself celebrating for a month.

"It's not just in the ring where we've had to fight but outside the ropes as well.

"All the contracts and people trying to take swipes against us, paying off sparring partners, opponents, stuff like that.

"After 23 fights, to have this fight against Valuev, for David to be in a position where he could choose which champion he could challenge, is definitely a testament to how exciting he really is."

Few are predicting a distance fight with Valuev, 36, as Haye admits he wants to get the Beast from the East out of there as quickly as possible.

Haye's stamina has been constantly questioned but trainer Booth reckons it is down to genetics. He explained: "People questioned Tommy Hearns' stamina.

"If you look at fighters who are notorious, aggressive punchers they're not the fighters who nip, and slip and slide and tuck and stick a jab and nick a couple of shots here and fidget around for eight, nine, 10 rounds. They go out there and try and blast people out straight away.

"David has exceptional hand speed because genetically he has a lot of fast-twitch fibres, people with a higher percentage of fast twitch fibres such as sprinters have a lesser percentage of oxygenated fibres.

"It's like saying 'You'll never really be world class as a marathon runner'. Well, you're right, but this isn't going the distance, this is only going 100 metres."

Fuk I thought his stamina was fine in his last few fights but clearly its a problem if what Booth is saying is true. However, this could also be another ruse. :huh:

if haye doesn't change his style for this fight and pace himself he could end up being fvcked in five rounds, that's when the speed and power diminish. i really hope they don't expect to blast valuev out, it might happen, i don't know, but they need another gameplan just incase.

If the stamina issues are real then how can they possibly have another game plan? if they can't blast not just the giant but every HW away within say 8 what are the other options? :blink: Is Haye the Heavyweight equivalent of Taylor? :o

They surely have to be throwing a dummy here, a few mind games or something. :boxing:
