Maccarinelli fined for motor offence

Feb 8 2010 WalesOnline

A FORMER boxing champion has been fined for failing to provide information after his car was caught in a speed trap in Merthyr Tydfil.
Enzo Maccarinelli

Enzo Maccarinelli, a former World Boxing Organisation and World Boxing Union champion, failed to appear for the hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates’ Court today where he was charged with failing to provide the driver’s identity.

He also failed to turn up on the last occasion but his business manager did, explaining that Maccarinelli, the ninth world champion to come out of Wales, was training in the States in a bid to regain his title and was therefore unable to attend court.

In June 2003, he took the WBU cruiserweight title against Bruce Scott, knocking him out in the fourth round.

Maccarinelli became WBO champion in 2006, successfully defending his title numerous times.

In 2008, Maccarinelli fought fellow Brit David Haye in a world cruiserweight title unification fight, but lost in the second round.

Paul McGann, prosecuting, outlined the facts of the case and said that a mobile speed camera had been set up on Swansea Road on May 7 last year.

Around two hours later, an Audi car was caught doing 47mph in a 30mph speed limit.

At the time of the offence, it was registered to Maccarinelli, nicknamed in the sporting arena as “the Big Mac”.

A notice of prosecution was sent to Maccarinelli, 29, of Gethin Close, Gendros, Swansea, on May 13 and a letter of reminder on July 7 asking for the information regarding the driver of the vehicle at the time of the offence.

A summons was sent on October 13 and his business manager explained to the court on December 15 when the case was listed that Maccarinelli was in America, leading to a further hearing today.

District Judge Vivian Manning Davies found the case proved and fined Maccarinelli £600 with a £15 victim surcharge. "Though he probably earns millions,” he said and endorsed his licence with six penalty points.

A collection order was also made in default of the fine being paid.

Talking of macca. I haven't seen or read anything from Reeso in a while rolleyes.gif do you think the big mac's down turn in performance is something to do with that? The pair were great pals I seem to remember.
