Elite Boxing's Galarza an inspiration to young fans

Inside the ring, boxer Frank Galarza is an undefeated light middleweight whose stock is quickly rising. Outside the ring, however, is where Galarza, who is managed by A.J. Galante's Danbury-based Elite Boxing Enterprises, has fought the toughest battles of his life.

Growing up in the notorious Red Hook apartments in Brooklyn, Galarza was only 7 years old when his father died from complications from a leg amputation, a procedure made necessary by a gunshot wound. About two years later, Galarza's mother died from a drug overdose. The street life had made Galarza an orphan before he was 10 years old, and it wasn't long before he began hearing the call of the streets himself.

Whet eventually got Galarza off the streets and on the right path was boxing.
