Oscar De La Hoya: Best fight to be made not Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao

Founder of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De la Hoya, talks Canelo Alvarez being the present and future of boxing.

McLEAN, Va. — The fight the world has begged for since they were, well, much younger — Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao — remains faintly on Oscar De la Hoya's radar.

The Hall of Fame boxer and founder of Golden Boy Promotions, who runs the day-to-day operations of the company named for the former Olympic gold medalist, has handled most of Mayweather's fights since the two fought in 2007.

That fight, won by Mayweather by split decision, sits in De La Hoya's craw. He's never wavered from the belief that he won.

He's still optimistic Mayweather-Pacquiao will eventually happen, especially now that he has "ended boxing's cold war" and made...

Oscar finally out of rehabs and no longer hanging with prostitutes nor cross dressing.

But he takes the reigns of the company and bets the house on a guy who isn't the next big thing.

As much as Oscar is a bit irritating, I hope he has the foresight to scout new fighters with potential and develop it. Also need to get his Hispanic-centric tendencies in order of he wants to really make a go here.

Canelo is a good fighter but he was embarrassed by Floyd, didn't look too good against trout, and not sure he beat Lara either

Ggg would demolish him, cotto may beat him as well.

There may always be a fan base for a red headed Mexican fighter win or lose. But Oscar needs to diversify. And also to get realistic. Oscar may wish Camelot was more important than pac or may weather but it's just not the case.

I guess we are in for another round of Oscar talking out both sides of his face again
