The Record

This time a year ago, Danny Garcia was well on his way to becoming one of the most beloved boxers in the world.

The unbeaten junior welterweight champion from Philadelphia was fresh off a surprising win over Argentine knockout artist Lucas Matthysse on the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Canelo Alvarez undercard in Las Vegas. Garcia’s most impressive victory was part of the second-most-watched pay-per-view event in boxing history, and he was widely lauded for defeating a dangerous, favored foe most boxing experts expected to knock him out.

Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) was respected and admired by demanding fight fans. One of boxing’s best left hooks and a sturdy chin primarily enabled him to beat six former world champions in seven consecutive bouts – Nate Campbell, Paterson native Kendall Holt, Erik Morales, Amir Khan, Morales again, Zab Judah and Matthysse.

Matthysse has constantly been calling for a rematch due to the extra help Garcia had that night. Of course, he wants nothing to do with Herrera or Matthysse ever again.

It's too bad Main Events dropped their suit, but there is still one pending from Bad Dog Productions over the rights to Rances Barthelemy.

Extra help?

Low blows, the refs negligence, the incorrect call of the knockdown while Matthysse was tied up in the ropes, etc.

Hmm, just was part of the fight, to me.  He lost a point for the low blows.  I didn't find the KD to be incorrect, either.  A close but clear win for Danny, but of course I'd watch a rematch.

Whenever we don't like the outcome, we rationalize the result as "extra help" and other such nonsense.
