Mikey Garcia targets 140 pounds

By Dan Rafael | ESPN.com

Mikey Garcia vacated his junior lightweight world title on Tuesday, and interim titlist Orlando Salido was elevated to full titleholder.

Garcia, who has won world titles in two weight classes but has not fought since January because he is embroiled in a dispute with promoter Top Rank, which he is suing, was due to face Salido in a mandatory fight. But with no plans to fight anytime soon and Garcia also facing problems getting down to 130 pounds, he vacated.

Garcia sent the WBO a letter letting the organization know about his decision, according to WBO president Paco Valcarcel. Valcarcel told ESPN.com that the organization and Garcia have been in regular contact "because he was supposed to fight Salido, as per our interim requirements. His response was that he was unable to defend it because he has trouble making weight and wished to move to 140. Finally, they asked [that] we rank him at that division.".......

Yes. An excellent clash of styles.

I don't think Garcia wants the Crawford fight but let's see what happens. No telling what will happen with Crawford while Garcia is in litigation.

Garcia should target boxing, or retire.

Doubt he cares what you think
Ignoring the fans does nothing positive for a boxer's career.  Look at your boy Rigo, can't get a payday to save his life.

Has anyone info on what his Top Rank dispute is all about? Has Top Rank issued a point of view?

Mikey says the contract is illegal and is suing to get out of it.  His lawyer says:

"Top Rank should be smart about this whole thing. They should read their own contract and see it goes beyond the face of what it can be and they should say, 'Hey, you know, Mikey, we're sorry. Let's sit down and see if we can negotiate a new contract," said Freedman, according to Fighthype.com.

"I mean, that's what they should do. Because, look, at the end of the day, the contract's only going to last for so long. Even if they have an interpretation of what it is, it's still going to end, and why would they lock themselves out of the marketplace to be in a discussion with maybe one of the most attractive fighters in the next five years."

Top Rank's lawyer says:

"Mikey Garcia's lawsuit against Top Rank is baseless. The promotional agreement is 100 percent legal, 100 percent valid and 100 percent enforceable," said Marroso, in an e-mail to RingTV.com. "Mikey and his lawyers know this, which is why they are saying, ‘we should renegotiate.’  Top Rank has invested huge sums of money to help develop the Mikey Garcia brand, and we are going to vigorously defend our rights in court.”

Fighting smart saves brain cells. Are you going to pay medical bills when they retire? No so stfu
Not fighting at all is saving brain cells for Mikey, too.  If that's what he wants, he should retire.

Sitting on the sidelines has done a world of good for his career, he should keep doing that.  He can talk to Ward about it.

We pay their purses with our HBO subscription and buying tickets and/or PPVs when they fight so you STFU.

Vik wants to blame fans for fighters mismanaging their money so they can't afford health care.  That is not my problem, but it is to Vik.  He is more concerned about trying to be friends with boxers than the sport.

Actually, with the talk of Manny going down to 140, this makes me feel they are setting up something for next year or so. I'm predicting Manny - Mikey in 2015.
