Mexican former World Champion would be a significant step up in class for Liverpool fighter

Liam Smith's team will push for a fight with former world champion Carlos Molina early in the new year. The British light-middleweight champion faces international opposition for the first time in his career on Saturday night when he takes on Zoltan Sera.

Smith battles the Hungarian for the vacant WBA Continental title at the ECHO Arena and knows a win should catapult him into the governing body’s top 15. And ‘Beefy’ will be hoping to secure a significant step up in class of opponent in 2015 by luring Mexican Molina into a fight.

Molina lost his IBF world title to Cornelius Bundrage earlier this month and counts a host of leading light-middleweight fighters as former foes.

Smith, who is expected to comfortably deal with Sera this weekend, is eager to test himself beyond domestic level and his team see Molina as the perfect bout to prepare him for a world title shot....
