James DeGale desperate to become super-middleweight world champion

James DeGale admits he sees his fight against Marco Antonio Periban as a stepping stone to a shot at the world title next year.

The Londoner is ranked as the No 1 challenger in the International Boxing Federation's ranking, and is due to face the Mexican in Liverpool on November 22, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

DeGale also revealed his professional goal was to become the first British Olympic gold medallist to win a world title, after claiming gold in 2008 in Beijing.

He told Sky Sports News HQ: "It’s a massive risk. I’m No 1 challenger for the IBF. I didn’t have to take this fight.
"I’m fighting Periban, he’s a good fighter, fought for the world title against Sakio Bika. I know he lost on points but...
