Former light heavyweight titlist Beibut Shumenov, who lost his 175-pound belt to Bernard Hopkins by decision in an April 19 unification fight in Washington, D.C., is returning to the ring and moving up in weight with an eye on another title.

Shumenov (14-2, 9 KOs) will make his debut in the 200-pound cruiserweight division on Dec. 13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where he will take on Bobby Thomas Jr. (14-2-1, 9 KOs) in a scheduled eight-round bout on the card headlined by the welterweight fight between former world titleholders Devon Alexander and Amir Khan.

"I look forward to Dec. 13 and pursuing a world cruiserweight title with (adviser) Al Haymon in my corner," said Shumenov, 31, a native of Kazakhstan, who lives in Las Vegas...
