John Murray: Manchester boxer forced to retire by eye injury

Manchester boxer John Murray has been forced to retire because of an eye injury that could lead to blindness. The 29-year-old has had two operations on a detached retina and been advised by doctors to quit the sport. A former British and European champion, Murray failed in a bid for the WBA world lightweight title when he lost to Brandon Rios in New York in 2011.

In his last fight, he lost an WBO inter-continental lightweight title bout against Anthony Crolla. However, Murray ends his career with an impressive record of 33 wins, 20 by stoppage or knockout, and only three defeats from 36 professional contests.

"I've had 20/20 vision in both of my eyes my whole life," he told ITV News....

Over achieved given the lack of head movement really. Tough bastard. He's skint apparently which is a shame.
