Lomachenko hurts hand, wins big

By Dan Rafael | ESPN.com

Featherweight titlist Vasyl Lomachenko, the brilliant two-time Ukranian Olympic gold medalist regarded by many as the best amateur fighter in boxing history, is making quite a name for himself as a professional. Lomachenko, who won a world title in only his third professional fight, made his first defense against Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo and cruised to a one-sided, unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena in Macau, China, (Sunday morning Macau time) on the Manny Pacquiao-Chris Algieri undercard.

Lomachenko, despite suffering a left hand injury in the sixth round, won by shutout, 120-107 on all three scorecards. ESPN.com also had Lomachenko winning 120-107.

"I had a lot of pain in my (left) wrist beginning in the sixth round but battled though it," Lomachenko said through a translator....

He won big as he should have, against a guy who was a bum.  A bum who had only ever beaten bums.  I don't get excited over shit like that.  There are too many name featherweights for Lomochenko, a belt holder to be allowed to fight a bum.  That shit was ridiculous.  Must have been Bob Arum's maneuvering and greasing of palms.  He did something similar when he lined up David Diaz to fight that bum Montano, for the vacant title, so Pac could have a title fight when he  moved up to lightweight.

The only name he ever fought was Chris John in 2012.  Prior to that and after, he fought all bums.  The 8 opponents he fought after he lost to John leading up to the Lomachenko fight, had records of, 18-8-1, 11-4-2, 8-12-3, 11-3-1, 1-10, 25-14-1, 29-19-5, and 2-2.  How the fuck does that get you a WBO title shot?!!!

What was the purpose though.  Lomachenko is too skilled to be protected.  They could have gotten a better opponent for him.

Lomachenko just fought a grade A can.  Seems like somebody else was scared enough to not put Lomachenko in with a live body.

Who should he have fought?

Remember, the event was in China and it was preferable for the opponent to have been of Asian descent.

There were more credible Asian opponents than Piriyapinyo though.  Marvin Sonsona, two or three Japanese guys.  Guys that at least have been fighting opponents with decent records.  Instead Lomachenko was matched with Piriyapinyo, a guy who had fought 8 bums in a row to get a title shot.  That is laughable, and unacceptable.  Even more humorous, commentators stating that Lomachenko was the first guy to put him on the canvas in his career, like it is some huge feat.  Nobody who fought Piriyapinyo's previous opposition would taste canvas either.

If Loma wants to fight the best, he should have to beat somebody first.  lol

That was a very credible opponent. He was the number 1 ranked opponent. He has an iron chin. His only loss came to chris john a UD and chris john  beat the legend juan manuel marquez to a ud.
