Carl Froch ordered to start negotiating mandatory IBF title defence against James DeGale

Last Updated: 03/01/15 5:31pm

Carl Froch must agree to defend his IBF super-middleweight title against James DeGale by the end of January or his mandatory challenger will be allowed to battle Andre Dirrell for the belt.

The Nottingham man has not defended his IBF or WBA titles since his stunning stoppage win over George Groves at Wembley in May.
Froch has even suggested he will retire if a Las Vegas clash against Julio Chavez Jr does not materialise, but there is fresh doubt about that fight due to a rift between the Mexican star and his promoter Bob Arum.

DeGale earned his shot at ‘The Cobra’ by halting Brandon Gonzales on the Froch-Groves II undercard and the IBF will press ahead with plans for a clash with Dirrell if they are not notified about the champion’s next move...

Best thing that'll ever happen to DeGale is if Froch retires.

Uncle Eddie will set him up against a beatable opponent for the title.

Froch vs DeGale = Froch wins.

DeGale vs Latvian with undefeated record, DeGale has a belt.

That the reason you want the fight so badly?  Don't care whether he wins or not, but you want your favourite fighter to be better off financially?

i think he can beat froch.

i've said that many times.

I didn't say that at all.  I said it'd be better for DeGale if Froch avoided him.

Hearn sorts him out an easy title shot.  He'd end up with a legitimate title, he could use it as a bargaining tool to get bigger fights.  Or failing that, he could do what everybody else does, and cash in making soft title defences. He'd also have the reputation as the guy Froch ducked, which dupes a lot of casual fans.  With the title, he'd have more opportunities to further his career and -gasp- make a lot of money whilst doing it. Not really that hard to follow.

The only reason I laugh is because it sounded like you cared more about his purse, than whether he'd win. :D

I just thought it was a comical comment, calm yourself down. :D

Besides, sig bets should be reserved for fights that are actually signed and happening.

What fight was it that the losers had to have naked men on their sigs for a week afterwards?  I think it was in US Boxing Chat.

That was weird.  We all had to look at it for a week.  Naked men was a weird thing for the winner to want to see.

I'd give Froch a ton of respect if he fought Degale, I won't hold it against him because of who he has fought. But if he fought Degale even though he doesn't have too, that would seriously impress me. Degale is no mug la.

Be a bit shit if he doesn't fight again.
