I have the same problem, but I don't spar as often as I should. Let me ask you something...what is it that is making you nervous? Is it just the anticipation, is it being afraid of making a mistake, the fact that others eyes are on you? I believe that constant repetition will cure our ills. Repetition & constant practice should create confidence in what you know you can do, know matter what the other guy is capable of. Try visualizing what you will do prior to the match, seeing only victory and perfection *as the mind cannot tell the difference between what it sees and what it imagines*. Daprofessor probably can help you a bit more, but I thought I'd drop a couple of lines...hope this helps

excellent advice...i agree. i would also add that he should try taking deep breaths to calm urself. it definitely helps to close ur eyes and visualize urself doing exactly what you came to do, win. being nervous can be a good thing. it heightens our senses and reaction. move around....shake ur body up and just get out there and do what u know u can.....whoop ass!!!!

Get your ass in there and take a few hits. That will calm you down

what daprofessor says is right, just take deep breaths, in from the nose, out from the mouth, losen yourself up, shake your arms around and do whatever that makes you feel comfortable. dont go into a brawl, thats just nerves and what probably happens is you dont breath right, lose concentration and everything goes wrong, so breath properly and try and be as calm as you can be and try and box the way you want to box. after a while you just get used to it.
daprofessor
good luck! let us know how things go for u.

When I used to spar i'd be nervous, it's natural but once the bell rings and you get going it goes away.

You're bound to be nervous before fighting someone.

Also, remember when you spar you are supposed to be LEARNING above all else, and once your learning increases you can up the intensity of your power in your punches. Work with people you are comfortable working with before you jump in with the gunslingers.

Its a natural thing to be nervous and Like the PRof said that prepares you fro what your about to do. Its also in a way one of the hardest aspects of the game, if it wasn't for those nerves there would be many more boxers.

In regards to nerves before sparring try and relax and enjoy it, enjoy the learning experience, if you get caught with a good shot laugh it off rather than cursing and tensing and drawing attention to it. Energy follows attention so like all the other guys have said before a fight you want to visualise an exellent performance, think about how hard you have trained and what great condition your in. Evntually thoe nerves wil become more of an exciting buzz and your abilityt o let go and relax will refine your performance.

Lastly I would say that win or lose personally speaking the feeling after a fight is immense, its a great sense of achievement because you have ut your body and mind to the test. Not many people can say they have done it. Go for it mate and stay positive. Keep at it.

Peace

u've touched on a very good point here!!!! i tell my guys that how we train is how we fight. so if ur the kind of guy that gets down on himself every time u make a mistake u'll be doing the same thing come fight time. that can cost u big time because ur opponent will capitalize on it and the judges will be swayed by ur reactions as well. u should always work thru ur mistakes. half the time...the only one that knows u've made a mistake is urself. work thru it. never stop....just go back to it and get it right the second time if u missed it the first time.

also, ur ritual to get ready in training/sparring should be the same or similar to ritual to get ready for fighting. sometimes sparring will be tougher than the actual fight. learn to approach it all the same. the more u do it....the easier it will become.....the more relaxed u will be. sometimes to get my guys more accustomed to sparring i'll doing sparring drills. usually targeted at things like jabs or defense....or footwork...or sometimes...strictly body punches....each time i'll step it up for them until they'll become so comfortable it all becomes second nature.

If you go in there with the attitude you are going to give your best you won't be nervous. You can't be nervous and give your best.

One problem is that some sparring partners comes in gunslinging. The fighter don't learn crap from that.

shyne, hope your tariner is looking out for what's best for you. boxing2.gif

good luck for that fight. remember if you're nervous and you look towards your opponent, he's also nervous, you remember that, it's not just you, but it's what you do with your nerves that makes you a fighter, and it's what the other fighter does'nt do that makes him a coward. fvck me i just copied that of cus'd'amato. laugh.gif

A good warm up. It takes 10 minutes at double heart rate for your capillaries to fully expand. After that it becomes a lot easier for you heart to do it's job. It won't change the mental aspects, but your body won't be tight and your breathing will be far more relaxed.

I get nervous every time and it has been years.

I think you just need to make it work for you. for me, the nervousness makes me think so clear and puts me on edge to where I throw my punches so crisply and can see the punches coming. It also makes me go for the win instead of just going through the motions. Let the nerves DRIVE you.

As the fight goes on, you naturally get less nervous because you know what you are up against.

It is when you are not nervous that I would get worried, because there is a danger of complacency.

Tyson used to be told that fear is a freind. I think that is true.

hope this helps.
