as long as you're not a fatass then it's not a problem. I'd still shoot for 160. run more.
BIGMARK
perfect weight is a tough one because ii all depends how how you feel. i am a big guy and got down to 210- 215 but felt really week and since then i put a bit back on and now feel great at 230-240. those perfect weight charts are BS because it all depends on your body shape for example most my weight is in my legs which just solid pices of meat which i cant do much about. i always look at the Klitschkos and think how the hell can i be around the same weight as those monsters and then see how skinny their legs are and have my answer.
ajspoza
hell my legs are pretty muscular. just have a little gut and skinny arms. ya know
TheDamned
Everyone has differing body sizes/shapes. Im 6'1 and my walking around weight is 154 and my ideal weight would be 140 because im at about 147 when in training.

However when you look at me i do resemble a garden rake and it sounds like you dont. Start trying to drop some pounds and see how you feel. To me most important thing is finding a weight that you feel strong and healthy at.

A pal of mine used to box, he's 5'9 and was a heavyweight. He told me that he could get down to cruiser but he felt less than 100% so he never fought there. It's not so much about your height more body shape/size and bodyfat percent.

you're still in, right? Hell, take the STA Indoc. It'll peel off if you get in. My friend Reid just graduated from Scout/Sniper School today (did the Trail of Tears last week.) He went from 230 to 200 and he's 6'2" and has always been less than 10% body fat.

He got booted after two tours with STA because he was 4 pounds over and was made a police sergeant. He got back into STA and is about to pick up Sergeant and will be a section leader. He swears by Crossfit too. we weren't doing that when I was in.

Crossfit is good shit...Unfortunately the Corps had us doing "boots and utes" runs to shred our knees.

I'm a fat @ss. 5'10', 230 lbs.
When I was 175 lbs I was faster, could jump higher, and had more stamina.
At that point I could dunk a volleyball or even a basketball on a REALLY bouncy court.
I started to try and gain weight and build muscle like an idiot..then stopped working out when I graduated college and kept eating...now I can't even touch a 10 foot rim.
Your ideal weight is not a number, it is whatver weight you are at that maximizes your athletic ability and health.

I don't know about non-infantry, but in the Infantry where I was, it is doing 5-15 mile runs in Cammie Trousers, Jungle Boots, Green PT Shirt, Flack Jacket and Kevlar Helmet.

Followed you into? Dude, I don't know what you are talking about.
How many threads do you post in? Pretty much all of them I would say seeing as how you are a loser and this place is your life.
So I happen to post in 6 whole threads that you also posted in and I'm following you around....
You are the one that took the time to COUNT THE THREADS THAT WE BOTH POSTED IN...that is pretty sad man.

Besides that..name the threads..I don't think I have posted in 6 threads that you posted in.

this is an old post but i will give my opinion anyways,it all depends on your body type and how fat/muscular you are but imo no one that is 5''6 should fight over 152 pounds(69 kg) if they can help it,5'6 is pretty short even for 152 if you go to 165 you would be fighting guys that are like 6'0 or maybe more.

that's the problem with these generic ideal weights. i'm 15-20 pounds heavier than you and i'm considered pretty overweight, even though i lift and either run or bike atleast 20 mins. everyday. i remember when holyfield was the champion years ago men's health showed that by the government's charts, he was considered 60-70 pounds overweight..

Yeah its funny they don't equate natural builds into these stupid weight ideals. Like I have a friend who is my height and if he starved himself he'd probably have a hard time getting down to 190lbs. Its all about your frame and natural build really not about your height.

I know it's ridiculous. I've got a friend who's 5'9 and he weighs about 200. He's built like a fukin tank and not too much fat on him, yet his BMI tells him he's obese.

My friend is a Marine Sniper and he was initially kicked out of STA for being overweight...At 6 foot 3 and 215 pounds lean. He was able to get back in though. Just did a lot of cross fit.

When he gets home, he's putting in his papers to be a Drill Instructor. He's done three pumps in Iraq and is ready to move onto Drill.

He's gonna be a lifer.

for boxing you would probably have to melt down to 165(75 kg's)
the next weight class up is 178(81 kg's) and you would be too small for that as you are already under that now without training.

My body fat is rather low actually and I run quite often. If I were to get into some serious boxing training though your right I would probably go down to about 165lbs but I like lifting weights so I probably won't do that.

Pretty much thats why I just stick to working the heavy bag, shadow boxing and the speed bag and leave the sparring and full contact training to the pros and amateurs. biggrin.gif

I think if I got serious though 160lbs would probably be ideal for me, maybe even 154lbs if I gave up weight training.

I'm too old being 28 years old to be getting into the ring with some 18 year old who wants to use me as a punching bag anyways. I'll stick to being a spectator.
gibe
it depends a lot on body compo. mesomorphs (good muscle to fat ratio) but they fail in the BMI scale lol

the mirror is a better judge still biggrin.gif

Key is the muscle to fat ratio, as long as you lose the flabby and love handles then you are ok fitness wise. Health is different to fitness though, so you really have to look into adequate cardio besides lifting.
dillyyo
Golden rule: Weight means NOTHING! Body Fat is the imprtant factor and why charts like BMI are inaccurate. For my height 5 10.5 and age I should be like at most 160 lbs. Yet I am 184 at about 8% bf and athletic. Have your BF measured and then shoot for a goal %. If you are in a good range and like it then work on whether you want more muscular development or if you want to thin out more.

Tough to answer w/o knowing the details but I would say no higher than 152.
