Hey guys, how's it going?

Just wondering if anyone had any good drills they did for increasing your chokes and general submission strength/power. Obviously tecnique is massive but I was wondering if anyone did any other sort of drills squeezing dummies/bags etc?

Have a great weekend and train hard.

Peace

Wellll....i did see a clip of some chimps with a smaller type heavy bag practicing chokes with it....repetition makes perfect. Mebbe they use a clock for timing. I doubt there are very many active mma practitioners read this forum other than D-Gonza and HD. I saw a few exercises with a kettle ball...

I skip really well. I had that same problem, plus a dull ache on the inside of my calf after skipping for a while. Have you tried new shoes? Worked for me

Fight people. That's what I have been doing. Tell them that you won't throw any fists, and give them free reign.

Either you'll get good, or they will.

Hit the outside workout yesterday, 8 rounds, made sure i did the skipping a station of the 3 per round..dave and Colby over today so did another 10 rnd today....Colby can skip...young chimps game, so I watched and learned. Light bow flex tomorrow, and the ab boot camp...Im feeling submitted today...
ray the grey
unsure.gif well, i sorta hijacked this thread....sorry....anyway..have a 8 pd weighted ball...got playing with it last night...im thinking i include it as a station...stand back to back and side pass, then over head /between legs....i member doing this way back when i trained at a club down in frosty hollow NB...

I am toying with also just making the hanging bag a 3 rounder once in awhile...just to keep the intensity up...
ray the grey
First workout back after the last one...March 3...had ..umm..prober surgery, had to let it heal up, fits the wraps better now. mellow.gif

Any how, I did start with a 3 minute hanging heavybag and then continued on for 3 minutes kicks on the soft bag and then the speed bag.... mellow.gif i ..uhh...forgot the skip rope...yeah...plum forgot it...eventually down to just 2 minute rounds for each of the 3 stations a cycle, drills and mixit up...huffing and puffing on thet speed bag...left arm gets about 45 seconds and caves on 1 arm drills, southpaw... sad.gif
ray the grey
Well, working out again this afternoon, Dave will be over. Going to include the skip rope again.... sad.gif Will go for 12 -3 minute rounds...1 minute on each station mostly but every station will get hit with at least 1 3 minute focus....been up 12 hours now so hoping he arrive soon... smile.gif

Soooo...what are you fat chimps doing this pm? smile.gif Let you know how it goes in a bit...

biggrin.gif went great, warm up, then first 4 rounds were 3 minute at stations, I started skip, speed bag, hanging, standing, next 3 rounds were station each minute for the 3, then another 3 minute at one station-I was speed bag, then 2 of 1 minute per station for 3. Light bow flex to cool down. Skipping was easier actually and I only dropped the arms once or twice on the 3 minute speed bag. That also is a work in progress. I may have to scoot to the Nanaimo Boxing Club for a few drop in sessions, pick up a few ideas. Ran the weighted ball routine by Dave, he is up for it.

Update...arm raised clenched fist raise and nod to shifty...car port warrior clan baby!!!

Yo Ray! Its been good that you have kept us up to date with your training progress! You've inspired me to build my own gym at the back of my yard so the grand opening of 'Assasins Reef' should be in a bout 3 weeks! I thinking of having 3 bags to alternate (2 up at a time), A long bag, long shots and kicks, a heavy bag for power and a maize angle bag for speed work and angle shots and of course a speed ball.

I went on a good training camp a month or so back so have some great ideas for goos sessions with the focus on the quality of training rather than the shear amount. I will keep you updated. Keep training hard and keep the faith.

Peace

whew....have got in about 4 strait workouts every second day...just finished one up....no Dave for the last 4 as other stuff has come up so going alone. Skipping improves every time, tho i still get winded awful fast. I dont run, smoke weed, and have asthma...I can do a 3 minute session now tho i still hang up the heels on occasion with the rope. I may try just standing in place and practice high stepping..get the motion familiar and then throw in the rope...been dropping in the 3 minute round per station alot more...I have neglected the standing bag abit to focus on kicking the standing bag, and the skipping. I will never be a kick master so basically they are aimed low to distract/take out a leg and set up the punches. Couple of 3 minute rounds throwing elbows...dropping them from above and down, and stepping in to land them. Lots of fun. I may hit the bow flex later...but the missus grey has a turkey in the oven...and pie...mmmmm....and i may eat and pass out instead...

Have you looked into Cross-Fit?

The Marines have implemented that and my friend who is a Sniper (deployed right now, not enjoying this one a bit) says that it still kicks his ass and works very well.

This coming from a guy whose last evolution for being a sniper was a 15 mile timed run with a full combat load in the lovely hills and ridges at Camp Pendleton...

While having CS Tear gas canisters being thrown in front of the platoon the whole time while they ran with no masks...

Yo Grey! What surgery did you have and how is it going at the moment?

Sounds like your making some good progress man! My gym construction has been put on hold which is a b1tch! but I've got a 6ft long bag so just waiting on a heavy bag and maize/angle bag to complete the group!

U-S-M-C 0311 --- Great intell on the crossfit training idea! I think they also call it Tabata training! Like doing high intensity weights ciruit with core power exercises, really good for any anaerobic sport/training.

Keep working hard fellas!

Peace

Tabata..is thet 20 seconds max..20 seconds break, for 8 sets...then repeat 8 times?

mellow.gif You chimps should try thet next work out...time it out with a clock....feck me...

I did 6 3 minute round sessions, then switched to random shit today after work...2 of the 3 minute sessions were skip rope....cant do any thing fancy but plugging away. I do need to invest in better shoes, my feet get burning. Need to start to force myself to bow flex more also...liking the car port routine too much.. smile.gif

mellow.gif O... prober surgery, there Shifty. Arthritis. mellow.gif

blink.gif whew, back, was running from the men in black fer a few months but managed to stay busy under the car port. Have introduced a hockey stick into the workout...across the shoulders for upper twists. Hockey players can scrap eh so some of their dry land training cant hurt. Skipping has improved, can vary it from strait hops to one stepping by numbers ect...sweat like a pig. Spent since last September not using the bag mitts and just went with the wraps. Have now re introduced the bag mitts for 3 minute rounds on the hanging bag. Can hit harder and push it. Introduced focus mitts with Dave and do 4 or 5 round of drills back and forth...fecking chimp is a tank, been weight training since he was 13 , 44 now...lots of fun... unsure.gif

Walking lots around 2 places every day after work with the dogs, Colliery Dam
http://www.trailpeak.com/trail-Colliery-Da...-Nanaimo-BC-751
and Westwood Lake.

sad.gif
I have some bad news. sad.gif I had to perform life saving procedures on a good good friend yesterday, to no avail. I rushed out a life saving tool and used it to push air into the punctured lifeless body...only to finally raise my prober to the skies and cry...you bastards..you killed my speed bag! sad.gif

biggrin.gif But today, I received a transport from a starship and my favorite captain of a brand new speed bag and the training continues! user posted image
