When I first began boxing my trainer stated me with teaching me how to stand then after that I learned the jab. I jabbed for about 2 weeks everyday, then my trainer taught me the jab one two combo I did that for a week then the following week I leaned a week combo. And thats how I got started. How would you start someone new to boxing or how did you get started

not enough attention is given to proper stance and balance. i've fluctuated over the years trying different things...but not exactly re-inventing the wheel. i do something similar....but i put extreme focus on the stance and movement with a jab alone for a couple of weeks. i used to throw them to the heavy bags in the beginning to get their conditioning up...but what i've discovered is that it is best if they avoid bags until the proper stance and balance has been drilled into them. they develop habits that are hard to break when they go straight to the bags. they fall in love with their cross...or they lean into the bags ignoring balance...and they definitely don't get to work their movement. everyone is different. that's just my opinion.

Sounds like a very slow boring pace. As a trainer I go through every punch in boxing on the first day. However, I do not let-up on them until I see they are throwing each punch correctly. If I am on the other side of the gym and I see them throwing incorrectly I walk over, tell them and watch them until they correct it.

Boxing is a slow process. You can't expect someone new to boxing pick up on every punch in boxing in thier 1st day. The way my trainer started me out was the best way. I didn't even hit the puching bag till about my 2nd month boxing. There are to many trainers teaching youngster crap. You can't expect to thow a towell over your shoulder and call yourself a trainer. No disrespect dude but that is 100% true..
