I was about to tell you don't bother w/ a 7 year old kid unless he is a relative but see he is your son. Very tough. I worked w/ a four year old b/c his dad said he, "has it." Ultimately I told the dad I'll work with his 12yr old and his 4yr old can come and watch.

I suggest keeping him interested by making sure he has a favorite fighter and ask him to watch fights with you when you know it's going to be a fan friendly fight.

Good luck.

does your son actually want to box? have you asked him?.. it's probably the reason why boxers and fathers sometimes fallout, and you don't want that.

you don't want to force him into boxing because it's likely he'll lose interest very quickly especially a physical sport like boxing and at such a young age aswell.

leave it for a while would be my advice, he's young, and if he wants to do it then he'll mention it to you.

if you really want him to do boxing, then one way to do it is to see if he's interested in watching you box, most sons at that age want to be like their father, and normally copy. at the moment though he doesn't seem interested, so i would leave it.

You mix in the skill aspect with what he sees other pros do.

make it exciting and challenging. be careful not to discourage him. reward him for proper behavior. keep the workouts short and very direct. focus on 2 to 3 things per session. start with stance, movement and the jab. after that...add 1 to 2 things per session. building each time and refreshing him on the things u covered already. make the training interactive. mittwork is always fun for kids. let him have fun with it.

Ever brought him to a gym? You'll see if there's an interest. boxing2.gif
