Amir Khan rules out fight with Manny Pacquiao

WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan says it is unlikely that he will ever fight stable-mate and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.

On Saturday Pacquiao became a five-weight world champion after brutally defeating Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas in their WBO welterweight title fight.

"As for fighting him (Pacquiao) in the future, I can't really see that happening," said Britain's Khan.

"I'm sure by the time I get to that level he will be calling it a day."

He added: "We train in the same camp and I've got too much respect for Manny to fight him."

Khan joined Freddie Roach's 'Wild Card' gym in Los Angeles after his 60-second defeat by Breidis Prescott in September 2008.

His link-up with Roach has seen him become a close training partner of Pacquiao, which has reaped huge reward.

Since then the 22-year-old form Bolton has captured the world title and on 5 December makes the first defence of his WBA belt against Ukrainian Dmitriy Salita.

Khan was ringside to see the Filipino's 12-round demolition of Puerto Rican Cotto. Pacquiao floored his opponent twice in the early rounds before finishing the contest late on.

And asked about Pacquiao's sublime dismantling of Cotto, Khan said: "Me and Manny train together, we have the same trainer and everything.

"I totally respect him and what a great performance he produced at the weekend.

"He was amazing, I was there to watch the fight and it inspires you. When you see a great champion do that and think about the fact I was training with the guy for five weeks, to pick up even a little bit of experience from that is going to help me in my career."

And ahead of his title defence Khan insists joining Roach in California was the best decision of his career.

"It's the best thing I've done," he said.

"I've got away from all the distractions, I'm totally focused, I get up in the morning to do my run, I go to the boxing gym to do my training and the main thing is I can have a rest in between training.

"In England, I'm always left, right and centre, doing this and that. At least now I've got a break between training."

it's a ploy, amir khan is studying every move pac does in the gym. he's got his little note book in his bag in the dressing room.

monday- pac looks amazing. his speed is good, i don't know if i can take him.

tuesday- pac looks shit, his speed was crap and i think i can take him.

wednesday.. nope, pac's too good. better go to the papers and say i'm not going to fight him.

Manny vs. Amir would be a good fight. First, Manny should get extensive tests to make sure he's not any type of steroids - I hope he's not, but many people say he is.

I think steroids is just a last ditch attempt to explain it all away. After the Cotto fight, there's nothing more to say other than to invoke the spectre of steroids. I expected the total destruction of Cotto, but I was impressed anyway. Thinking it was going to happen was one thing, but watching it happen was quite another.

If this fight ever did take place, I would literally put every penny I had on Manny KO'ing Khan within 30 seconds in the first. biggrin.gif

mayweather won't offer khan the next fight cause it would essentially give roach two chances to figure him out.

He also has apparently ruled out a rematch vs. Prescott.

Amir Khan is an arrogant loudmouth jackass in the mold of Naseem Hamed and David Haye.

Once upon a time when Lennox Lewis got knocked out he aggressively pursued rematches, got them, and regained his belts. But then Khan is no Lennox Lewis.

Thats because neither of them are anywhere near his talent level in the ring so they have to make up for that with their big mouths outside of it.

I never really rated Hatton much but in light of these gayfight.gif guys seeming to take over the British scene it makes me wish the Hitman was back in the spotlight. I'd even settle for Calslappy coming out of retirement just to get attention away from these 2 clowns

khan himself has never ruled out a rematch with prescott, he's always said he wants that fight, but then warren is his matchmaker at the moment.
