Cityboy
WWE Smackdown is currently on tour in Japan and after the first show at Yokohama Arena some superstars gathered together with the Japanese press to fill question.

The Japanese press asked Angle about MMA with wrestlers like Dan Henderson and Mark Coleman in competition and what are his thoughts about step into MMA.

Angle said he likes Pride and find MMA very interesting. However he state clear there is no intention to try MMA because of his broken neck. He said back when his neck was in good condition he could and it had been considered try MMA but not now due to his neck condition.

I also heard he was interested in it back in the day before he hurt his neck. He is pretty tight with guys like Coleman, Couture and Mark Kerr because they use to wrestle eachother back in College and everything. Mark Kerr I believe actually defeated Angle before in College.

Would have been interesting to see Angle definately would have been a beast on the ground and it doesn't suprise me that he is a fan of MMA.

Angles an incredibly strong guy also.

I wonder how his stand up would be though.

If you have a great wrestling background like Angle all you need is a good chin and basic standup because once you get ahold of your opponent you can take them down almost most definately.

I would think though that if he didn't have that neck injury and got into it years ago that he would have trained thoroughly in some standup before actually doing MMA. Angle just seems like the type of guy that wants to have all his ducks in a row before going through with anything. He likes to be fluent in all that he does.

I agree.

Kurt Angle is a consumate professional.

If he had of entered into MMA he would have made sure he went in fully prepared.

Would have loved to have seen him in against Royce Gracie or Frank Shamrock.

Kurt Angle was recently presented at the last NCAA's as one of the 50 greatest college wrestlers of all time. He was a remarkable wrestler at Clarion who won the heavyweight title twice weighing only about 220lbs. He then went on to win the Gold as everyone knows in the 220lb class.

He'd be a good MMA fighter, but he even stated there when they asked him about real wrestling and he said "not a chance."

I'm pretty sure Angle would have a been a beast on the level of Matt Hughes, and possibly even better.

The guy won two medals in the sport, which in itself is the prize that almost all wrestlers strive for, meaning Kurt was the best.

A wrestler of his pedigree would have definitely done well in MMA, which I'm sure which is why he considered it in the first place.

Wrestlers who were good, but not as accomplished as Angle have and do do well in MMA.

Hughes, Kerr, Couture and many others.

On another note, Couture for the win tonight against Chuck.

Yeah but his neck is messed up. So even if he wanted to come back, his state of condition wouldn't allow him to.

I'd love to see Kurt fight mma... damn he would have been good. I agree he'd have to learn how to strike though.
