Dixie Kid was a welterweight who often fought heavier men. He was clever and fast with quick reflexes -- a counter-puncher deluxe. Kid fought with his hands at his sides and his chin stuck out, inviting attack. His favorite punches were a right uppercut followed by a left hook to the head.

Unbeaten when he ventured to Australia, he won the British Empire Welterweight title in 1914 from Johnny Summers and subsequently won the World Welterweight title from Waldemar Holberg; Then, he lost the crown to Matt Wells and was never the top flight man he had been after that loss

Tom was killed in action in France during World War I; The exact date in the summer of 1916 is not known but it is believed to be in June, July or August.

McAuliffe fought out of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York and was one of the best lightweights ever; He was one of only five men to retire unbeaten over his entire career; The other four were Young Mitchell, Jimmy Barry, Rocky Marciano, and Ricardo Lopez.

Jack was a wonderful two-handed fighter who depended upon straight blows; A wicked, hard-driven left jab and a left-right combination were his best punches; He was also "cat-quick" on his feet.

George "Kid" Lavigne was born in Bay City Michigan on Dec. 6, 1869. He began his professional career on September 7, 1885. Nicknamed the Saginaw Kid because he began fighting at the ripe old age of 16 out of the Michigan town.

In 1894 he fough a historic battle with Andy Bowen, a New Orleans fighter who, along with Jack Burke, had fought the longest contest on record. Lavigne knocked out Bowen who died the next day due to the severe beating which Lavinge administered.

In June 1896, Lavigne met Dick Burge in London and won the World Lightweight Crown when he knocked out the Englishman in 17 rounds. George defended his title against Jack Everhardt(w.25), Kid Mcpartland(w.25), Eddie Connolly(w.ko11), Joe Walcott(w.12), Jack Daly(d20), Frank Erne(d20), and Tom Tracey(w.20). Lavigne finally lost his title when in a return match Frank Erne defeated him over 20 rounds on July 3, 1899.

Lavigne fought on sparingly until the age of forty. He died in Detroit, Michigan on March 9, 1928.

Britt was a scrappy fighter who carried a good punch and had great confidence in his ability to win; He was "heady", trained hard, and maintained a good pace throughout an entire fight; He never underrated an opponent. He defeated Kid Lavigne, Frank Erne, Young Corbett, Battling Nelson, and gave Joe Gans a whipping before losing on a foul; He has never received just credit for his skills.

Britt starred in vaudeville after retiring from boxing. He was elected to the Ring Boxing Hall of Fame in 1976.
